Chalk

A few chalk and charcoal drawings I've been doing lately before it gets too hot outside. Its already hit  over 100 this year here in AZ,while in Alaska its still snowing (as of yesterday)! I miss the great white north. But I guess you can't really draw with chalk on the snow, so I guess Im okay for right now.

Ambidextrous charcoal speed drawing

Here's a video of me drawing with both hands at the same time. Im using a broke in half charcoal stick. It originally took me about three and a half minutes to draw, but we sped it up , so you wouldnt completely shrivel up and die of horrendous boredom. Hope you like it:)

This one and the two before it have been entered into an art contest held by New Times and Chambord. I entered these under the abstract category.
 I especially like this one. If you look closely at this face you'll see that its not really a face at all, like how his eyeball is really a grinning monster head, or his giant nose actually being a walrus.

Iris puzzle

My son and I wanted to do a puzzle this morning, so we painted this one with acrylics on a 4" x 6" pre-cut puzzle cardboard. Donovan helped paint the cloud on the right, and it was his idea to paint the iris, because we have a copy of van Gogh's Irises hanging in the living room. This iris is painted from a picture of a wild one in Alaska this summer. They're one of my favorite forms of plant life by far.

Mushroom Satyr

I found a couple of good ones from '10 in a big pile of watercolors collecting dust in my studio (which just happens to be an extra bedroom in my house!). This shroom-savoring satyr was inspired by Brian Froud's Puck, from his book, Faeries. Froud is one of my favorite artists, definitely a huge influence on my style. He designed the creatures in Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, two of my all time favorites growing up. The baby in Labyrinth was actually played by his son, what do you think of that, eh? Eh?

Campfire

Charcoal drawing of a campfire we made at the fish and game cabin my dad works at this summer. Beautiful place full of blue bells, brown bears, and bald eagles.

Fawnfish

A recent commission painted in acrylics, really stoked about how this one came out. Dude wanted it for a band poster, so I left the brown water/planet surface (however you want to see it) open for words and dates and what not. Some of the creatures surrounding the catfish-faced fawn are based off of real live animals that still live in the wildernesses of sweet Mother Earth today!!!!

Here's a watercolor I painted recently while on vacation in Alaska, of which this painting has nothing to do with. Its a picture from a national geographic mag I bought while I was there. I think this picture was taken in the republic of Tuva, where they do throat singing...

Bad Mojo no. 5

My latest suicidal voodoo doll, Bad Mojo number 5. This was a commission for a coworker of mine, John, who is in a blues band called the Second Hand Killers. He dangles it from his microphone stand during gigs.
